My sister-in-law, Megan (see her Valentine’s Day proposal here), went dress shopping last weekend and found the most beautiful wedding dress! It was the third one she tried on. We shopped around for a little while after, just to make sure, but it was clear her heart was set. I’m so excited for her and I’m so glad I got to be there. Read on for a few dress shopping tips!
Tip #1: Don’t try on dresses over your budget. That’s the mistake I made and I fell in love with a dress over my price range. We had to make some adjustments so I could get it. Save yourself before it’s too late.
Tip #2: Be willing to try on things you might not think you like. The dress Megan chose wasn’t what she thought she wanted – but it couldn’t fit her more perfectly. Know what details you like or don’t like but keep an open mind.
Look how precious my husband is. I can’t believe he wanted to tag along. He’s such a sweet little brother!
Tip #3: Start dress shopping as early as possible. Some dresses take 4-6 months to order plus you need to leave time for alterations. Lucky for Megan, she was able to buy the sample dress from the store for her June wedding. It was so new she was the first person to ever try it on – like it was meant to be!
Tip #4: Listen to your gut. No matter what your mom, or sister, or friends, or consultants say, it’s your dress. Choose one that makes you feel comfortable and beautiful and forget the haters. We watched a girl trying on dresses desperately attempting to choose one her picky mother liked, eventually she went back to the one she loved and I wanted to give her a slow clap for it!
I highly recommend Rebecca‘s in Louisville, they were amazing!
